Review the following checklist to learn what to do before you join the ranks.

Checklist for new students using VA benefits

1. Apply for VA education benefits

Learn more and apply today at va.gov/education/how-to-apply. You will receive a Certificate of Eligibility as confirmation of your VA educational benefits.

2. Meet with an admissions counselor

Learn about the admissions application process and explore programs offered at WSU Vancouver.

3. Meet with the veterans coordinator.

Meet with the Veterans Coordinator to discuss using your benefits at WSU Vancouver. To schedule, email van.veterans@wsu.edu.

4. Apply for admission to WSU Vancouver

Apply today! Veterans using VA educational benefits must provide their Joint Service Transcript from the Community College of the Air Force as part of the application process.

5. File your FAFSA

Did you know you can apply for financial aid and use VA benefits? File your FAFSA at fafsa.gov to put extra money in your pocket.

FAFSA code for all WSU campuses is 003800.

6. Accept your admissions offer and fill out the Vancouver VMAS Information Sheet

Once you've been admitted accept your offer and complete the Vancouver VMAS Information Sheet for our team to learn more about you.

7. Meet with your academic advisor

Plan and register for classes.

8. Submit the Enrollment Certification Request

Once you are registered for classes, submit the Enrollment Certification Request. This is used to create your enrollment in the VA system and trigger your benefits for the term you are enrolled. You must submit this form every term for which you are using VA educational benefits.

9. Complete the New Student Checklist

Review next steps for new students.

10. Attend Orientation

New Coug Orientation is mandatory for all new students.
