Mission and learning outcomes

Mission

We strive to cultivate an inclusive community where historically underserved students are affirmed and have sense of belonging at WSU Vancouver. We value intercultural learning, co-curricular programming and service that illuminates the cultural wealth and intersecting identities held by the students of the CILA at WSU Vancouver.

We do this by:

  • Fostering a cultural responsive student centered space in the CILA and co-curricular offerings on campus and service base high schools.
  • Promoting cultural identity growth and awareness through workshops, course work, and co-curricular programming.
  • Building sustainable and strategic partnerships with student identity-based organizations, service-based recruitment, local school districts and community colleges.

Learning outcomes

In addition to carrying out the mission of CILA, co-curricular programming and service in feeder schools is intended to compliment the academic rigor provided within the courses at WSU Vancouver. Students and community members engaged and in CILA programs and initiatives will develop stronger cultural responsive skill-sets required to build the capacity for intercultural learning and affirmation.

The following are learning outcomes CILA programs and initiatives intend to emphasize:

  • Students will be able to express ideas, identify behaviors and actualize practices that promote Intercultural Learning and affirmation.
  • Students will be able to articulate ideas and demonstrate learning across differences in perspectives and experiences.
  • Students will be able to demonstrate techniques and implement strategies to interrupt the systems that contribute to the eraser of their own histories, cultures and experiences.
