The theme of this year’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service event is “Bridging the Gap Between Sustainability and Social Justice”. The event will include a keynote speaker and special music, followed by various workshops and activities that focus on educating attendees about environmental justice issues and that promote action and service in our community. Attendees are encouraged to RSVP for this event!

Event schedule

Check-in and registration
8:30 - 9 a.m.

Check-in and register for workshops (light breakfast items will be available).

Welcome and musical presentation
9 - 9:20 a.m.

Session #1: Sustainability/Social Justice workshops
9:30 - 10:30 a.m.

Session #2: Sustainability/Social Justice workshops
10:30 - 11:30 a.m.

Keynote address and lunch
11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Tree Planting with Clark County Public Utilities Stream Team (Optional)
12:30 - 3 p.m.

This activity will take place on campus immediately following lunch. We will take sign ups on the day of the event. Open to the first 25 people who sign up.

Children’s activities

9:30 - 11: 30 a.m.

Card making, Martin Luther King Jr. Craft Activities. Recommended for kids 12 years old and under, all children should be accompanied by a parent/guardian.

Jo Ann HardestyKeynote speaker

Jo Ann Hardesty, former Oregon state legislator and former executive director of Oregon Action.  Jo Ann is a long-time voice for Portland's under-represented communities and a leader in the struggle against racial and economic injustice.
