Frequently asked questions about graduation

How do I get on the “list” or “register” for the graduation celebrations?

If you completed your degree in December or if you apply by the spring deadline to graduate in May or July, we have your name and you should have received an invitation to participate.

What are "honors" and how do I get my honor cord?

Undergraduates who have demonstrated exceptional academic performance will be graduated with honors in one of the following categories:

Summa Cum Laude—Candidates for baccalaureate degrees who have completed at least 30 hours of graded work at Washington State University with a cumulative grade point average of 3.90 or better by the end of the fall semester prior to graduation.

Magna Cum Laude—Candidates for baccalaureate degrees who have completed at least 30 hours of graded work at Washington State University with a cumulative grade point average between 3.70 and 3.89 by the end of the fall semester prior to graduation.

Cum Laude—Candidates for baccalaureate degrees who have completed at least 30 hours of graded work at Washington State University with a cumulative grade point average between 3.50 and 3.69 by the end of the fall semester prior to graduation.

Honor cords are provided by the Associated Students of Washington State University Vancouver (ASWSUV).

Your final honors status (printed on your diploma and official transcript) will be based on all WSU graded credits and grade points through your last term as an undergraduate, degree-seeking student.

Only undergraduates are eligible for honor cords; graduate students receive hoods.
