Petition flow chart for undergraduate and professional students

When should you file a petition? Review the following outline to determine your next steps.

Student requested actions

Drop individual class—Academic Regulation 67

  • Prior to 30th day of classes?
    • No petition is needed. Student may drop classes in myWSU.
  • Missed drop deadline? (30th day)

Withdraw from individual class (drop with penalty after 30th day of classes)—Academic Regulation 68

  • Student has not exhausted their withdrawals AND it is prior to the withdrawal deadline? (End of the 13th week)
    • No petition is needed. Student may drop classes in myWSU.
  • Student has exhausted their withdrawals and has a withdrawal limit reached hold on record?
  • Missed withdrawal deadline? (End of the 13th week)

Current term withdrawal (withdraw from all classes)—Academic Regulation 70

Withdrawals not counted towards total individual withdrawal count.

  • Past semester? (Missed current term withdraw deadline)
  • Current semester? (Prior to the last day of instruction, before finals)
    • Students must withdraw from current term online at cancel.wsu.edu.
      • Student satisfied with tuition adjustment?
        • No petition is needed. No further action is needed.
      • Student NOT satisfied with tuition adjustment?

Yes! I do need to file a petition (Academic Regulation 57)

A petition may be submitted if you have documented extenuating circumstances. Petitions without documentation are denied. File a petition with the Registrar’s Office to initiate action.
