Eligible State of Washington employees may enroll in up to 6 credits during the fall and spring terms, as outlined in the University Policies and Procedures Manual (UPPM 60.70).
Admission is required
State employees must be admitted to WSU to use the employee tuition waiver.
Courses not eligible for the waiver:
- 100% online (asynchronous) courses, including all Global Campus courses.
- Internships, practicums, independent study, and other courses listed in the UPPM 60.70.
- Some courses in the College of Nursing and College of Education, Sport, and Human Sciences. Check with a department advisor.
Costs and fees
The cost is $5 (admin fee) for up to 6 eligible credits. Individual course fees may also apply. State employees must pay standard tuition and fees for any credits over the 6-credit limit.
Waiver application process
- Submit the completed waiver form online by the 2nd Friday of the term.
- The form will route to the employee’s supervisor and/or Human Resources.
- For WSU employees, Human Resources will start approving requests one week before the start of the term.
- The Registrar's Office will enroll waiver students on the first day of the term if there is space in the class.
- Tuition waivers will not apply if students self-enroll.

The Fall 2026 Waiver Form will be available August 1.
