Week Zero Welcome

The VanCoug Journey hosts an annual Week Zero Welcome for students in the UNIV 104 and 304 learning community. The Week Zero Welcome program is meant to get students acclimated to the University and administrators will formally welcome the students. In addition, Mike Caulfield, Director of Blended Networks and Learning and Obie Ford, III, Associate Vice Chancellor for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion will provide presentations that will position students to succeed in their courses at WSU Vancouver.

VanCoug Journey Co-Curricular Activities

As part of the UNIV 104 and 304 courses we will offer many co-curricular activities, which include the implementation of First-year Friday virtual events that focusing on wellness, music artists, speakers, etc. We are collaborating with Pullman’s First Year organizers to share a wide range of programming virtually. In addition to formal co-curricular activities, Peer Mentors for the UNIV 104 and 304 courses will hold sessions during their office hours for students that cover topics such as Digital Literacy, Financial Literacy, and Study Skills for College Success.

Finally, the ultimate goal for the UNIV courses is to get students successfully through the first year and move them toward becoming independent learners who can navigate the challenges of college and life, and are forever open to discovering new ideas and challenges in life. The speakers for this event will introduce strategies for success such as navigating and understanding identity and information, which is part of what our UNIV 104 and 304 course will also implement for all students: an understanding of self, others, and independent learning strategies.
