LaRonda Zupp joined WSU Vancouver in August of 2018. As a Deaf individual, LaRonda has first-hand knowledge and experience of the challenges, frustrations and issues faced by the disabled community when seeking equal access to information, education, services and involvement. She credits her former college advisor in the Disability Support Services, with teaching her many years ago as a young freshman, and newly deafened, how to understand her own accommodation needs, her rights for equal access and how to ask for support services. Empowered from the self-advocacy skills she learned in college, LaRonda went on to earn a BA in Deaf Studies from Gallaudet University (1984), an MS in Counseling, with an emphasis in Deafness and Rehabilitation from California State University, Northridge (1987), and several post-graduate certificates. She has worked with the Deaf and disabled community in a professional capacity for over 30 years as a School Counselor, Community Educator, Client Advocate, Nonprofit Manager, Retreat and Life Coach and Entrepreneur. LaRonda has devoted most of her professional life to teaching diverse individuals with disabilities about the laws that support them, and how to self-advocate for equal access and appropriate accommodations in both educational and community settings.
